In September, Guelph Medical Imaging is opening a new clinic at 54 Cardigan Street and closing its Wyndham Street location, says the company’s CEO.

The new Guelph Medical Imaging (GMI) location on Cardigan Street will better serve the clinic’s clientele, said Probhash Mondal, chief executive officer and managing director of GMI, in a recent phone interview.

He said some clients, especially elderly ones, were uneasy about the location of the Wyndham Street location, which is in the Old Quebec Street Mall.

Another clinic in that mall specializes in addiction services and methadone treatments, he noted.

“Getting out of the mall is good for us because our patients are very scared because of the methadone clinic,” said Mondal. “They freak out. A lot of times, the older patients don’t want to be exposed to any of that.”

The new clinic on Cardigan Street will offer the same vascular, mammogram, X-Ray, bone density and ultrasound services as the Wyndham location, said Mondal, and will be located on one floor with ample parking.

“They don’t have to go scrambling for parking," said Mondal of the new location.

The 525-square-metre building on Cardigan Street is located near the Guelph Youth Music Centre.

Aside from the current Wyndham Street location, GMI also has clinics on Dawson Road and Farley Drive.

In October, Guelph Medical Imaging filed suit against Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health for $10 million after its Dawson Road clinic was temporarily ordered to stop performing transvaginal ultrasounds.

The clinic was allowed to begin offering the treatment soon after when Public Health said it had come into compliance.

GMI alleged in its statement of claim that the health inspector that did the inspection was not qualified to do so, which has not been proven in court.

Mondal said the move of the Wyndham Street clinic to Cardigan Street is unrelated to the lawsuit, which he said is still going ahead.

“We are proceeding forward with it because it’s our reputation. We are going to take it to the end,” said Mondal.
