With retail cannabis stores possibly opening up at the beginning of next month, it seems Guelph's hopes for one is up in smoke.
For now, at least.
In early-January, 25 companies were named as eligible to apply for a license to open up a shop.
None of the locations are in Guelph or Waterloo Region.
There's three applications each for stores in Toronto, Ottawa and London.
Two applications are up for locations in Kingston.
And there's an application for one store in each of Brampton, St. Catharines, Niagara Falls, Burlington, Oshawa, Ajax and Sudbury.
It's unknown if any of those locations will open up right on April 1st, and no applications will be accepted for the remainder of 2019. That's because the Ontario government is working to stabilize the supply of marijuana.
There's seven more companies that are eligible, but it's unknown what's being done about them at this time.
Ontario residents are still able to purchase pot through the Ontario Cannabis Store website.
