Residents are being asked to avoid watering grass or washing vehicles while river levels are low

In response to low river levels, dry weather and increased water use, the city’s outside water use program moved to Level 2 Red on Wednesday afternoon.

This means residents will need to limit their outdoor water use for the time being.

Watering lawns and washing vehicles, driveways, decks or sidewalks is not permitted while in level two. Decorative gardens can be watered between 7-9 a.m. and 7-9 p.m. on odd or even days based on your address; odd numbered houses can water on odd numbered dates, and even numbered houses can water on even dates.

Decorative fountains are allowed only if they recirculate water; if not, they must be turned off. Outdoor hoses must have a shut-off nozzle to be used.

However, there are no restrictions on watering food gardens and trees.

The city has said they will continue to monitor weather conditions throughout the summer to determine if and when water use levels can change.

These restrictions will be actively enforced by bylaw officers, who will issue a fine or court summons for infractions.

There is some respite expected this evening, with a risk of thunderstorms until 7 p.m. Rain is also expected on the weekend.
