Guelph Police name the worst intersections for collisions in 2018

According to collision statistics released by Guelph Police Service on Thursday, the city’s most frequent place for a vehicle collision in 2018 was the intersection of Silvercreek Parkway and Speedvale Avenue.

The total number of collisions across the city was up slightly from the previous year. In 2017 there was 2,823 collisions reported, versus 2,919 in 2018.

A total of 36 collisions occurred in 2018 between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31 at the intersection of Silvercreek Parkway and Speedvale Avenue.

Edinburgh Road South and Stone Road West was tied with Wellington Street West and Edinburgh Road South for the second most frequent place for a collision to occur in 2018, with a total of 28 reported.

A reported 27 collisions occurred at the intersection of Gordon Street and Edinburgh Road South, while 22 were reported at the intersection of Imperial Road North and Woodlawn Road West.

Guelph Police said the worst month for collisions in the 2018 calendar year was November, with a total of 356 reported. Thursday was the day of he week when collisions most commonly occurred, with a total of 507 reported.

In the vast majority of collisions — 2,098 of the 2,919 — the road conditions were listed as clear/dry.

Forty-six of the collisions involved pedestrians, while 25 involved cyclists.

Drugs and alcohol were a factor in 42 of the collisions.

The worst time of day for collisions reported was between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., with a total of 908 reported in that time frame over the course of the year.
