Howie Mandel, Burton Cummings among artists showcased during River Run’s new season (5 Photos)

New under 30 ticket pricing encourages students and young professionals to make arts a regular part of their lives

The River Run Centre announced its 2019-2020 performance lineup yesterday that includes a diverse range of artistry with comedian Howie Mandel and musician Burton Cummings among other artists.

“We know we’ll have you all on the edge of your seats with the very best artists and entertainers taking the stage right here in Guelph,” said River Run Centre theatre manager, Bill Nuhn in a press release.

“We’re looking forward to sharing a riveting 2019-2020 Season with all of you.”

The program is sponsored by Richardson GMP, and also partially funded by the Government of Canada.  

The centre also introduced a new ‘Under 30’ ticket price making it affordable to the younger generation.

“We want to make sure that our patrons have access to the performing arts at every stage of life,” said Nuhn.

“The new Under 30 ticket price makes it easier for students and young professionals to make the arts a regular part of their lives.”

The season will begin with the GuelphToday comedy series with Howie Mandel performing on Nov. 3, who has been in the business for over 30 years. Jan. 30 will see improve icon Colin Mochrie along with master hypnotist Asad Mecci for a ‘hyprov,’ an improv under hypnosis. Stand-up comedian Shaun Majumder will perform on Feb. 21 and The Just for Laughs Road Show will bring its popular comedy stand-up acts on April 23.

Named after their new sponsor Guelph Infiniti, the Guelph Infiniti Music series will showcase an a cappella experience on Nov. 9, a solo performance by Burton Cummings on Nov. 29, and The Men of the Deeps: Christmas on the Mine on Nov. 30 to start the holiday season.

A Next Generation Leahy Christmas will perform on Dec. 14, 54·40 on Jan. 19, Sarah Slean and Hawksley Workman will perform together on March 1 to each other’s music. The award-winning legendary Downchild Blues Band will close the musical series on March 27.

In order to bring audiences of all ages inclusive entertainment, Park Grocery Deli and Bar is offering their support with the Park Grocery Family Series with the tale of Jungle Book on Jan. 5, Dog Man: The Musical on Feb. 12, Masters of Illusion on March 10, and Charlotte's Web on April 8.

The Borealis Music Series will bring performances by many Canadian singers and songwriters such as The Abrams on Nov. 8, Amanda Rheaume on Nov. 28, Boreal’s Songs for a Snowy season on Dec. 20 and 21, The Slocan Ramblers on Jan 17 and Survivorman Les Stroud on Feb 21.

The Magic Music Now Series is back for its second season to bring indie rock and rising stars to Guelph with a live performance by Hollerado on Nov. 13 and The Trews on Feb 28. 

Running in its second season, Miijidaa Life Stories tells the stories behind the talented voices in the performing arts with Governor General Award winner Murray MacLauchlan telling stories of his career spanning more than 30 years on Nov. 5, Valdy tells stories of over 50 years of touring on Jan. 22 and Susan Aglukark looks into the culture of Canada’s northern communities.  

Running for   10 years are the popular Wooly Kinderconcerts that bring stories to life with the Guelph Symphony Orchestra to perform The Nutcracker on Nov. 16, The Barber of Seville on Feb. 1 and The Adventures of Robin Hood and Ms. Marian on March. 28.

The Showcasing Series will feature with A Whole New World: The Musical Magic of Alan Menken on Dec. 13, Canada’s Ballet Jörgen on Jan. 12, re-envisioning a classic tale in the new production of Anne of Green Gables – The Ballet and The Evasons will mesmerize audiences with mysteries of the mind on April 16.

Tickets are on sale through the River Run Centre box office. Single tickets go on sale at 11 a.m. June 4. Pack-it-up tickets are now on sale through the River Run Centre box office at a 20 per cent discount.
