NEWS RELEASE

Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Service is hosting two information sessions to highlight the role of a paramedic in keeping our community healthy.

The free sessions, in celebration of national Paramedic Services Week, May 26 to June 1, are happening from noon to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 31, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 1 at Stone Road Mall, located at 435 Stone Rd. W.

Paramedics will be on hand to talk about their role in the community, explain how the paramedic first response unit works, demonstrate medical equipment, and hand out career information.

In Guelph and Wellington County, paramedics are involved in a number of health initiatives through their involvement with the community paramedicine program. These initiatives include paramedic referrals and home visits, remote patient monitoring, public access defibrillator program, the Community Health Assessment program, and File of Life—a program meant to provide first responders quick and easy access to a patient’s basic medical information during an emergency.

File of Life magnets will be handed out at the information sessions to take home. We ask that you record critical medical information on the magnet and place it on the outside of your fridge—a place that is highly visible and gives emergency first responders quick access to your medical history during an emergency.
