GuelphToday received the following letter to the editor from Kashmalah Zeeshan regarding the true meaning of Christmas.
Christmas is an annual holiday, celebrated with pride as the birth of Prophet Jesus (May God be pleased with him).

Today, this admired celebration has grown to be greatly materialistic, the true purpose are gradually withering away. A tremendous amount of money is spent on Christmas presents, decorations and various other festivities. Should it not be the time to reflect on our acts and looking towards the good?

Each year, the energetic lights and spirit fill every shopping aisle, homes and cities. Statistics estimated that Canada spends over $19 billion on Christmas each year. Christmas now has become nothing more than an opportunity for economic gains. People have forgotten the true love and joy that could be achieved through this holiday.

Our aim should be to be a kinder person and to live a compassionate life. We need to analyze ourselves, did we protect ourselves from treacherous acts? Did we perform righteous deeds? People need to take this time, to support others and spread true love. The moral deeds of a person are what will truly make him a greater spirit and at peace.

“Nothing weighs heavier in the scale of God, than the excellence of conduct” - Prophet Muahmmad (saw).
