NEWS RELEASE
GUELPH FIRE DEPARTMENT
*****************
On Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2019 at 12:31 p.m. the Guelph Fire Department responded to a reported residential bedroom fire.

Upon arrival this department noted smoke from the third floor window. At this time all occupants had self evacuated the building. A rapid fire attack was performed and the fire was quickly brought under control.

Two occupants of the home were treated on scene for smoke inhalation and subsequently transported to Guelph General Hospital for follow up treatment. Damage to the home was contained to the third floor bedroom with light smoke damage to that floor. No injuries to firefighters were reported.

One family pet was rescued from the home and taken to the University of Guelph Vet Centre for treatment of smoke inhalation.

Guelph Fire Investigators attended the scene and the cause of the fire was a lit unattended candle which in turn ignited nearby combustibles.

Thanks to Guelph Wellington Paramedic Services and Guelph Police Service for their assistance.
