Local Arab women's group raises funds for local charity

The Arab Women’s Society of Guelph organized a donations campaign, a cultural seminar and a party for women from different cities

The Arab Women’s Society of Guelph organized a donations campaign, an amazing cultural seminar, and a wonderful party for women from different cities in Ontario on Feb. 9 and 12, 2022. The donations were allocated to Chalmers Community Center of Guelph On Feb. 9, followed by a cultural symposium and a wonderful celebration at the Royal Cuisine restaurant in Guelph on Feb. 12, 2022.

This event was organized by the president of the AWSOG, Dr. Sundus Alammi, with the assistance of the association’s workers such as Ms. Shatha Zarti the Marketing communication coordinator, Amira Al-Tahhan, the social media coordinator, and Sarah Omar, the purchasing manager. This wouldn't have been possible without the  support of the many women participating in helping the association. They made great efforts to make this celebration a success.  

On Feb. 9, 2022, a quantity of 222 pounds of non-perishable food was donated to the Chalmers Community Center of Guelph, whose vision is a world without poverty, where communities are flourishing with dignity, eequality and food security for all.

The second part of the celebration was on Feb. 12 and included a cultural symposium presented by counselor Wafaa bin Mahmoud, executive director of the Matab Organization for Youth Empowerment and counselor Hadeel Al-Jandali, a specialist in child and youth care.  Their lecture was more than wonderful. The title of the lecture was  "7 Foundations for Building a Strong Relationship with Your Children in Canada." The lecture was delivered in Arabic and translated to English by Dr. Asia  Elajnaf.

The party included the attendance of 54 multi-ethnic women and girls from various cities such as Guelph, Kitchener, Cambridge, Mississauga and Oakville. There was a luxurious dinner, various wonderful sweets, a beautiful gifts raffle, and a birthday celebration for one of the young girls. There was a wonderful bazaar for graphic art by the creative Amira El Tahan, owner of the Craftazya project, who works in the AWSOG as a Social Media Coordinator.

All the attendance  followed the special instructions provided by the Canadian Ministry of Health regarding COVID-19.

Gifts were also presented by the AWSOG, with the participation of many business owners such as

Oma Fresh Foods sponsored part of the party. The women participated in a wonderful dinner and discussions which lead to networking and making new beautiful acquaintances. They had plenty of time to chat and the entrepreneurs talked about their different businesses.
