Join us in Guelph Market Square on Friday November 26th, 2021 at 5:30 pm for the Official 16 Days of Activism - Orange Guelph Market Square

The 16 Days between Nov. 25 (The International Day to End Violence Against Women) and Dec. 10 (Human Rights Day) are known as the 16 Days of Activism to End Gender Based Violence.

Violence against women and girls is one of the most widespread, persistent and devastating human rights violations in our world today and is a threat to millions of girls and women online and offline.

It affects women regardless of their age, background, or level of education.

The global theme for this year’s 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, is “Orange the world: End violence against women now!”

Why orange?

This is the chosen color by the UN Secretary General in line with the United Nations' UNITE to End Violence Against Women Campaign. As a bright and optimistic color, orange represents hope and a future free from violence against women and girls.

From Thursday, Nov. 25 to Friday, Dec. 10 in partnership with the Zonta Club of Guelph, the City of Guelph will turn the lights orange in Market Square from dusk until dawn.

Turning the lights orange is showing support for women and girls that face violence. You can show your support for this worldwide campaign by wearing orange, visiting market square sometime during the 16 Days of Activism and posting a selfie with a pledge for saying NO to violence against women and girls #16Days #ZontaSaysNo #ZontaGuelph.

Make sure to tag @ZontaGuelph and @TheCityofGuelph, so we can see and share your support.

Each day from Nov. 25 to Dec. 10, 2021 the Zonta Club of Guelph will be posting on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter 16 days of Activism messages and advocacy actions you can take. Please follow, like and share each post.

On Dec. 6, 2021 we invite you to attend a Vigil at Marianne’s Park in Guelph, 6:30 pm hosted by Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis. December 6th serves as an opportunity to reflect, remember and honour the 14 lives lost at L’Ecole Polytechnique Massacre and each woman and girl whose lives were taken by violence in the past year.

See event details here.

Together we can “Orange the world” and work together to “End violence against women and girls now!”
