Please join Nature Guelph Wildflower Society, Pollination Guelph and GUFF (Guelph Urban Forest Friends) on Sept. 21, 2022 at 7:30 pm for a National Forest Day presentation by Joyce Hostyn on Zoom. Everyone is welcome!

Little Forests are a paradigm shift from planting trees as an element within ornamental landscapes to planting forests as flourishing, biodiverse Indigenous ecosystems. Little Forests are inspired by Akira Miyawaki who has overseen the planting of more than 30 million trees in over 1,600 locations around the world. Joyce Hostyn, co-founder of Little Forests Kingston will share how to create a little forest in your yard.

Joyce believes we can transform our cities one garden, one neighbourhood, one Little Forest at a time. She is a re-wilder who dreams of wild yards, green streets, and wild parks. Joyce is co-founder of Little Forests Kingston, a member of 1000 Islands Master Gardeners and an adjunct professor at Queen’s University in the Master of Earth and Energy Resources Leadership program.  She works with groups to co-design resilient, ecological, vibrant landscapes that reflect the spirit of place. Her design palette includes layered plant communities, native plants, natural materials, edibles and the soil food web. Any day she gets her hands dirty either on the land or in the kitchen is a magical day.
