The City’s draft Leash Free Policy has been posted on the City’s website, outlining the framework for the future of off-leash dogs in Guelph parks.
The new policy guides staff in creating new leash-free areas, choosing locations and developing rules to ensure safety for dogs and the community.
Staff has also posted the Leash Free Study that summarizes the results of community engagement, an inventory of current leash-free areas and proposed sites for future fenced in dog parks.
“We want to thank residents who participated in helping to build the draft Leash Free Policy,” says Luke Jefferson, manager of Open Space Planning. “We heard loud and clear from our community that it was important to create separate spaces for dogs in our parks so that everyone can enjoy our parks and greenspaces.
The Leash Free Policy report will be posted to the Council agenda on May 23, and the staff report goes to Council on June 24. If residents wish to delegate, they can register online at guelph.ca/delegation by June 21.
