A Guelph man faces impaired and stunt driving charges after being caught doing more than twice the speed limit with more than twice the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

Early Saturday morning, police were conducting speed enforcement in the area of Victoria Road North and Greenview Street. Approximately 12:33 a.m. a Mazda motor vehicle was caught on radar travelling 102 km/h in the posted 50 km/h zone.

The vehicle was stopped and a strong odour of alcoholic beverage was detected coming from the driver. He failed a roadside screening test and was returned to the police station for further testing, which confirmed he had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

A 20-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving, stunt driving, speeding and novice driver having alcohol in his system. His driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
