One good deed often leads to another.
So when Bob and Judy Taylor decided to donate a Gibson Les Paul and a Fender Telecaster guitar to the music program at Guelph Collegiate Vocational institute, valued at more than $7,000, the music program decided to pay it forward.
The lucky recipient of that charity was Ruby, an eight-year--old rescue donkey at the Donkey Sanctuary of Canada in Puslinch. The music department adopted Ruby as a way of giving thanks.
"We decided to say thanks for their incredibly generous gesture, we are going to adopt a donkey," teacher Lane Osborne explained.
It wasn't just an expression of gratitude, it was a learning moment for the students.
"Whenever these sort of organic moments come about and there's an opportunity to act and return a favour, I try to use that as an opportunity to teach my kids that, you know, learning goes beyond marks and your academic involvement in school," Osborne said. "And what's really important is that they become good people out of being a student at GC."
