Marcy and Joe Poulin had to change plans due to a fire that burned down their wedding venue the day they were supposed to be married.

The terrible fire that destroyed the Old Marina restaurant in Puslinch in August couldn't stop Joe and Marcie Poulin from tying the knot.

With wedding plans already disrupted once by COVID, the couple had planned on holding their reception planned for the restaurant the day the fire razed it to the ground.

But where there's a will there's a way.

Friends and family kicked into gear, making calls to see who could help save the day.

In the end the Cambridge Mill stepped up to the plate and hosted the reception on just a couple of hours notice.

Alex Kastner, the general manager at Cambridge Mill, said it was definitely a first for him: an emergency wedding with zero advance notice. Luckily, the venue happened to have an available space that Saturday night.screenshot-2022-12-16-21852-pm

"It's a pretty rare occurrence to have a space and a room not booked on a Saturday in the summer," Kastner says. "Within seconds, the whole team was up from the table, our executive chefs were getting food delivered, and the management team began reaching out to staff members to see if anyone could assist."

Kastner phoned Cormier back about 10 minutes later and told her the good news: he could accommodate everything they had planned for their 70 guests, including cocktail hour, dinner and dancing.
