CRIME STOPPERS GUELPH WELLINGTON

Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington (CSGW) once again put the community on the provincial and international stages, thanks to numerous Crime Stoppers awards in recent weeks.
The Ontario Association of Crime Stoppers (OACS) annual awards for 2021 were announced Nov. 5 at the online annual general meeting. The Crime Stoppers International (CSI) awards were announced virtually from throughout the United States, Africa, Bermuda, and Australia from Nov. 21-25.
CSGW falls in to the 100,001-299,999 population category for OACS and 0-300,000 population category for CSI.
Ontario Awards
CSGW was named to the Best Digital Award for The CSGW Series offered online in January 2021 for Crime Stoppers Month. The videos, which are still available on the CSGW YouTube channel, focus on the history of Crime Stoppers, Cyber Safety, and Victim Support.
The Best Radio Feature award was presented to CSGW for the submission offered in partnership with The Grand at 101. The October 2021 episode with Producer McKim Ecclestone and guest host Austin Cardinell focused on the importance of fundraising, the issue of identity theft, as well as crime prevention.
CSGW received the Special Project Award for the work done in partnership with Wellington County OPP and Victim Services Wellington on the #HTinWC and #SAinWC initiatives. The purpose of this campaign was to increase awareness of Human Trafficking and Sexual Assault in the County of Wellington.
The Online Excellence Award, an open class with no population specified, was awarded to CSGW for the quality of content on its website, www.csgw.tips as well as its social media presence on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn.
For the seventh year a row, CSGW received the Marla Moon Memorial Award of Excellence for its population category. It has never previously been awarded to a program seven years in a row.
All awards are posted on the OACS website and are announced on the organization’s social media platforms following the annual general meeting.
International Awards
The Best Media – Television Award was named to CSGW for the segment recorded with Launch It Minto’s Somer Antonopoulos who hosts What’s On in Minto for Wightman TV. The episode focused on online presentations, community crime prevention, and the role of fundraising. This episode aired on Wightman TV’s Community Channel 6 for viewers throughout North Wellington and Centre Wellington.
The CSGW Series was also recognized by CSI as Best Media - Digital for the program, and the submission from CSGW and The Grand at 101 – Swap Talk was also recognized internationally for Best Media – Radio.
#HTinWC and #SAinWC was recognized as Best Specialized Training – Human Trafficking and made special note of the videos created for the initiative as well as the web pages. These videos can be viewed on CSGW’s YouTube channel. The web pages are at www.htinwc.com and www.sainwc.com.
Remarkably, CSGW received a total of three Productivity Awards in the categories of Total Arrests, Total Property Recovered and Total Seizures. This is a result of the outstanding impact Tipsters had on the community 2021.
