Speed River Inferno brings top athletes to Guelph Wednesday

Night includes a Campus Mile race that is open to the public

Some of the top athletes in the country will be in Guelph Wednesday, June 13, for the annual Speed River Inferno track and field event at the University of Guelph.

Wednesday’s activities start at 6:30 p.m. with the Campus Mile, a one mile race around campus that is open to the public. Registration is $20 and includes admission to the night’s event.

The big event kicks off at Alumni Stadium starting at 7 p.m.

A number of former and future Olympians are expected to take part in 12 different events: women’s pole vault, men’s 110m hurdles, women’s 100m hurdles, women’s 800m, men’s 800m, men’s high jump, women’s 200m, men’s 200m, invitational junior girls 1500m, invitational junior boys 1500m, women’s 1500m and men’s 1500m.

Tickets are $10 with children 12 and under free.

On Tuesday there will be a Marathon Night, featuring a panel discussion with Canadian national team, Speed River and University of Guelph coach Dave Scott-Thomas and three of Canada’s top marathoners: Reid Coolsaet, Krista Duchene and John Mason.
