Around 5,000 undergraduate students will be moving into University of Guelph residence this week, which means there will be some road closures and heavier-than-normal traffic.
Students are assigned a move-in appointment time between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. from the evening of Aug. 31 to Sept. 2. During that time, several university-owned roads will be closed to all traffic besides those moving in, including:
- South Ring Road
- East Ring Road
- Dundas Lane
- Macdonald Street
Gordon Street will remain open from Stone Road to College Avenue.
There will also be heavier traffic on streets near residence buildings, like Stone Road, College Avenue, University Avenue, Smith Lane and Victoria Road.
To reduce traffic, buses won’t be going to campus during move-in weekend, instead using the parking lot at 80 Stone Rd W.
Anyone who doesn’t need to be on campus during move-in weekend is asked to avoid travelling to the university. Those who must be on campus are encouraged to cycle or walk, if possible, and to use caution at major intersections in these areas.
City of Guelph buses and taxis will be located at the Movati Athletic Centre Parking lot on 80 Stone Rd. W. GO Transit will provide stop locations on Gordon Street.
Several parking lots will also be closed from Sept. 1 to Sept. 2, including:
- North martialing lot – P3, P19, P20, P47, P51
- East martialing lot – P18, P16, Dundas Lane
- South martialing lot – P31, P8, P9
- North long-term parking – P23, P49
- East long-term parking – P14, P15, P7
- South long-term parking – P13
- Student Housing staff and volunteer parking – P11
All vehicles must be removed from these lots before Sept. 1.
