Upper Grand District School Board announced Friday afternoon that it will begin shifting schools to remote learning early next week.

All schools will be open to in-person learning on Monday. However, the update said keeping schools open during the strike "is not sustainable without our valued CUPE employees."

For secondary schools, the shift to remote learning will begin on Tuesday Nov. 8; for elementary that shift will begin on Wednesday Nov. 9. Students in life skills class placements will continue with in-person learning.

During remote learning days, school buildings will remain open for staff access and life skills classes. Childcare centres will also remain open, however, before and after school programs will close.

"Please keep in mind that the status of our schools will continue to be monitored closely and this plan may have to change, depending upon unforeseen circumstances," the update reads. "If for whatever reason we are unable to keep to the schedule above, and have to shift schools to remote learning earlier than stated, we will communicate this update as soon as possible. We are committing to providing an update by Wednesday November 9 with details on the plan for schools the following week."

Between Nov. 7 and 11, non-essential school events and activities may be postponed; athletic practices will be cancelled, though playoff games and practices will proceed as scheduled.

Information regarding technology distribution for students will be shared with families early next week. All updates will be shared here
