City worker Kyle Bonneville went above and beyond the call of duty while on his route picking up garbage on Thursday morning.

Bonneville was doing his rounds on Dumbarton Street in the city's north end when the City of Guelph collection driver noticed two-year-old Denver Lord watching his truck's every move.

Denver had been outside 'helping' his grandfather Ron Lord shovel the driveway.

"He absolutely loves watching the garbage trucks at work. Whenever we have him and we hear the truck going down the street we bring him to the window and he watches them work," said Denver's grandmother Mary Lord. "In the summer I take him in the stroller and we follow the truck down the street so we can watch him do every house on the street."

Bonneville put his truck in park and came over and gave Denver a Hot Wheels garbage truck, similar to the one he drives.

"He said 'I have something for him' and he handed him this Hot Wheels garbage truck," Mary said. "I thought 'wow! That was so nice.'"

They chatted briefly and Boneville posed for a photo with the Lords.

"He said he pays for the trucks out of his own pocket and hands them to children when they're interested. It made me think how great it was that people still do that type of thing," Mary said.

She said the driver deserved recognition for his good deed and he was okay with her spreading the word.

Mary said it will be a great addition to the collection of die-cast farm toys that Denver was just given.

"It's just a nice little story about someone doing something for someone else, perfect for this time of year," Mary said.
