Guelph ranks number eight out of 25 best small cities in Canada, says a new ranking.

With a population of 146,600 people, this small city is growing, said in a Best Cities report from Resonance Consultancy’s rankings.

The cities are ranked in six categories: place, product, programming, people, prosperity, and promotion.

Guelph ranked best in programming and promotion. Meaning it has a good arts and culture scene and positive reviews and recommendations online.

It ranks number 13 for best small cities in Canada for young adults and number 12 for educational attainment, said in the report.

While in previous years students would graduate and move away from Guelph, more students are staying in the city.

The growth rate of Guelph is getting close to 10 per cent, meaning it falls in the top 20 ranking for growth in the country.

Guelph also ranks sixth in best small Canadian cities in the sites and landmarks category, and of course references the Basilica of Our Lady Immaculate.

“A sense of indie and DIY pervades everything from the booming craft beer scene to the United Nations of independent eateries and local festivals, which, finally, mercifully, are coming back after two-and-a-half years of the pandemic silenced the Royal City’s gregarious spirit,” said in the report.

The top 10 best small Canadian cities, from first to 10th, are: Victoria, Kelowna, Kingston, Niagara Falls, Waterloo, North Vancouver, Burlington, Guelph, Fredericton, and Lethbridge.
