The intersection of Edinburgh Road and Stone Road tops the list for the most collisions in the city for the first six months of 2017.

The Guelph Police Service stats for the first six months of 2017 show that there were 16 collisions at that intersection from January to June this year. They involved 28 parties.

Rounding out the rest of the top five hot spots are Speedvale Avenue West and Woolwich Street (12), Clair Road West and Gordon Street (10), Imperial Road North and Speedvale Avenue West (10) and Silvercreek Parkway North and Speedvale Avenue West (10).

There were 1,241 collisions involving 1,996 vehicles and resulting in 141 injuries from January to June.

There have been two fatal collisions in Guelph in the first six months, a truck/van collision on Laird Road in May and a motorcycle fatality in the north end.

That’s down 205 collisions, 401 vehicles and 33 injuries from the first six months of last year.

February was the worst month for collisions with 239, just slightly ahead of January. April was lowest, with 165.

There were 23 collisions involving pedestrians and 18 involving cyclists.

  • Friday is the worst day for collisions with 217, slightly ahead of Monday.
  • Sunday had the fewest collisions at 117.
  • the 3 p.m. hour is the busiest hour for collisions, followed closely by the noon hour.
  • 195 accidents were the result of failing to yield right of way.
  • 77 accidents were the result of people following too close.
  • 392 collisions involved a stopped vehicle.
  • 300 collisions involved a parked vehicle.
  • 200 collisions involved a vehicle turning left.
