The Music at the Guelph Youth Music Centre (GYMC) Series proudly presents Thomas Wiebe on cello and Chiharu Iinuma on piano in recital on Sunday, Jan. 20 at 2 p.m.

“This is a rare treat at the GYMC,” commented Gabriella Currie-Ziegler, Executive Director of the Guelph Youth Music Centre. “We’re pleased to present internationally-renowned artists Thomas Wiebe and Chiharu Iinuma joining forces for a dazzling recital.”

Thomas Wiebe is a cellist and Associate Professor at the University of Western Ontario and a seasoned celloist, who has made solo appearances in Vancouver and Toronto, as well as performances with Toronto’s Grammy-nominated ARC ensemble at the Enescu Festival in Bucharest and the Mozart Festival in Augsburg, Germany.

He has performed on numerous occasions as a guest artist with Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony Orchestra and Orchestra London, Canada. He has also been a soloist with the Juilliard Orchestra at Lincoln Center in New York, and with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra.

Chiharu Iinuma is a pianist and on the faculty at the Vancouver Academy of Music. She has been increasingly in high demand as a teacher, coach and ensemble pianist. A founding member of the Ridge Trio, the Chamber Ensemble Bloomington and the Duo Gillham-Iinuma.

She has also collaborated at the world’s most prestigious music competitions, including the Tchaikovsky and Queen Elizabeth and Leonard Rose Competitions. In 1993, she was invited to participate in the inaugural Isaac Stern Chamber Music Workshop at Carnegie Hall in New York. In recent years, she has played in concerts and festivals in Germany, Sweden, Scotland, China, Taiwan, Japan, as well as across the U.S. and Canada.

Tickets for the Tom Wiebe and Chiharu Iinuma recital are $30 for adults, $20 for seniors & $10 for children (14 & under). Tickets can be bought online or by phone at 519.837.1119.

Established in 1992, the GYMC is a not-for-profit organization that is dedicated to education, enrichment and fostering the development of youth through music and the arts.
