Cooper Walker is the new captain of the Guelph Storm.

The club made the announcement Wednesday morning.

Walker, a 20-year-old centreman in his fourth year with the team, becomes the 31st captain in franchise history. His assistants will be Ben McFarlane, Danny Zhilkin, and Braeden Bowman.

“Cooper is someone that exemplifies what it is to be a Guelph Storm hockey player,” said Storm coach Chad Wiseman said in a news release. “You know what you are getting every day when Cooper shows up to the rink. He plays the game the right way, has tremendous on and off ice habits, and leads by example daily for his peers.”

The Cambridge native has recorded 18 goals, 28 assists for 46 points in 117 games with the Storm. Originally drafted in the 5th round, 91st overall by the Storm in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection. He attended Calgary Flames training camp this fall.

The Storm hosts the Saginaw Spirit Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
