Guelph athletes earn medals at martial arts provincials

Will next be in action at Canadian Martial Arts Championships in June

Students from Guelph Family Martial Arts have just returned from the Ontario Provincial Martial Arts Championships, an event that draws top athletes throughout North America and one of the most competitive and longest running events in the country, the club said in a release.

Coached by lifetime local residents and World Champions Nathan and Sophie Skoufis, the results were:

  • Grace Bridges: Two Gold Medals Sparring
  • Chris Hordatt: Silver Kata, Silver Sparring and Silver Weapons
  • Deepali Rajpal: Finalist Sparring 
  • Emry Verdecchia: Finalist Sparring
  • Kerri Klassen: Silver Sparring 
  • David Opiela: Gold Sparring 
  • Meghan McMurty: Gold Sparring 
  • Kent Watson: Gold Sparring
  • Mike Barker: Gold Sparring
  • Vanya Chadha: Gold Sparring

The team brought home:

  • 7x Gold Medals
  • 4x Silver Medals 

The athletes will next be in action at the Canadian Martial Arts Championships in June.
