The Guelph Storm continued to address its most glaring need Tuesday, acquiring 19-year-old winger Zander Veccia from the Mississauga Steelheads.
In exchange Guelph sent four draft picks to the Steelheads: a second round pick (Guelph) in 2026, a third round pick (Kitchener) in 2025, a conditional fourth round pick (Guelph) in 2027 and a fifth round pick (Sudbury) in 2024.
The 2004-born right winger from Ridgetown is a product of the Elgin Middlesex AAA program before being selected by the Steelheads in the third round, 43rd overall, in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection.
In 37 games this season the five-foot-10, 180-pound Veccia has eight goals and 21 assists. Last season he had 20 goals and 25 assists in 68 games.
Guelph has now added two 19-year-old forwards heading into Wednesday OHL trade deadline. The Storm is the seventh-lowest scoring team in the OHL this season and has been looking to add secondary scoring for some time.
Guelph's next game is Friday in Sault Ste. Marie.
