Guelph Storm wins pre-season encounter in a shootout

MISSISSAUGA – Newcomer Valentin Zhugin had a goal in regulation and another in the shootout as the Guelph Storm downed the Mississauga Steelheads 5-4 in a shootout Thursday night.

Guelph won the shootout 2-1, with Zhugin and Matt Poitras scoring for Guelph. Jacob Oster, who played the third period and the shootout, stopped three of four Mississauga shooters.

Matt Papais, Cooper Walker and Danny Zhilkin had the other Guelph goals in regulation.

Owen Bennett started in net for Guelph and stopped 23 of 26 shots in 40 minutes of work. Oster stopped five of six shots he faced in regulation.

Guelph wraps up the pre-season when they host Mississauga Friday night. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
