WINDSOR — The Guelph Storm couldn't maintain a spirited start Thursday night in a 5-2 loss to the Windsor Spitfires.

It was Gueph's third loss in a row and its sixth in its past seven games.

The Storm led 2-1 after the first period, outshooting their hosts 17-7 and getting goals by Matt Poitras, on the power play, and Cooper Walker, with 10 seconds left in the period.

But Guelph would manage just 11 shots on Windsor's Xavier Medina the rest of the game as Windsor scored twice in the second period and twice in the third, with the final goal coming into an empty net.

Owen Bennett made 31 saves in the Guelph net.

Guelph sits in fifth place in the Western Conference, four points back of fourth-place Windsor and five ahead of sixth-place Owen Sound.

The Storm plays Owen Sound at the Sleeman Centre Friday night. Saturday they are in Owen Sound.
