Randy Ribeiro has been named the new head coach of Guelph Union.

The Guelph Union women’s soccer team has a new coach.

Randy Ribeiro is taking over for Ivan Joseph, who recently stepped down from the role due to personal reasons.

Joseph led the squad to a 7-8-3 record last season, not enough to make the playoffs but enough to clinch a spot in the newly formatted 10-team Premier Division for 2024.

Ribeiro spent the last two seasons as the head coach for Electric City FC’s men’s and women’s teams in Peterborough.

Both teams qualified for their respective Premier divisions next year.

“I’m really excited. Guelph is a club with a lot of history in League1, and after speaking with Keith and the club, and understanding what the goals and visions are, I’m really excited to have a part to play in getting them to where they want to be,” Ribeiro said in a news release.

“I’m excited to meet the players, meet the fans, and be a part of the Guelph community. We want to be a competitive group, that plays good football, and is difficult to play against. Obviously, the main goal is to win the league. But there are a lot of small goals along the way that we’re going to try to hit, and with the club’s vision, and the people that are involved, I believe we can achieve good things in 2024.”

In a separate release, the team said Joseph stepped down for personal reasons, which don’t give him enough time to be at practices and games.

General manager Keith Mason said Joseph will “continue to help behind the scenes within the club.”
