The Guelph Nighthawks have re-signed its leading scorer form last season.

All-star, Cat Barber, who recently completed a 10-day stint with the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks, will be back in a Nighthawks jersey, the team announced Friday.

“You know last year we had some ups and downs and we still had a great team, but this year I’m looking forward to making a big push,” said Barber, a six-foot-one guard, in a news release.

With an average of 17.6 points and 4.4 assists per game last season, Barber was one of two Nighthawks to be named to the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) all-star second team.

Barber will join the team in time for the start of training camp in mid-May, with a home opener against the Scarborough Shooting Stars set for May 26 at the Sleeman Centre.

Following the end of last season, Barber returned to the College Park Skyhawks of the NBA’s G-League. In 15 games with the Skyhawks, Barber has a career high of 23 points per game, along with 8.4 assists per game and is shooting at 43.1 per cent from the three-point range.

As a result of his performance with the Skyhawks, Barber signed a 10-day deal as a call-up with the Atlanta Hawks.
