Royals drop final game of regular season

Playoffs open Thursday night in Toronto

The Guelph Royals fell 3-2 to the London Majors Tuesday night at Hastings Stadium in their final regular season game.

The Royals finished fifth in the nine-team Intercounty Baseball League with a 19-23 record. Their best-of-five opening round playoff series starts Thursday in Toronto. Guelph hosts the Maple Leafs in Game 2 Saturday night.

On Tuesday, Eduardo De Oleo and Charles Bowman each had two hits and drove in a run for the defending champion Majors (17-25), who face second-place Kitchener in the first round starting Thursday. Josh Williams also had an RBI.

Braeden Ferrington went seven innings for the win and allowed two runs on seven hits with a walk and eight strikeouts.

Justin Interisano and Owen Ellis drove in the Royals’ runs. Malik Collymore went 2-for-4 and scored twice.

Yomar Concepcion took the loss, giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits with three walks and five strikeouts.
