OSHAWA – Valentin Zhugin scored the lone goal of the shootout and Brayden Gillespie stopped all three Oshawa Generals attempts as the Guelph Storm won 5-4 Saturday night in Oshawa.
Zhugin came in at speed then slipped a backhand between the pads of former Storm netminder Jacob Oster.
Guelph tied the game with the goaltender pulled for the extra attacker when Max Namestnikov slid one past Oster with 1:12 left in regulation.
The game was tied 1-1 after one period and Oshawa led 3-2 after two.
Matt Poitras had a goal and two assists to lead the Storm attack. Braden Bowman and Cooper Walker had the other goals in regulation. Michael Buchinger had two assists.
Guelph outshot Oshawa 40-33.
The Storm hosts the Owen Sound Attack on Monday at 2 p.m.
