Storm blows third period lead in shootout loss

BARRIE – The Guelph Storm blew a 4-2 lead in the third period then failed to score in overtime or the shootout in a 5-4 loss to the Barrie Colts Saturday night.

The Storm also failed to convert a glorious chance to win it in overtime on a three-on-none break up the ice following a turnover in the Guelph zone.

Barrie's Beau Jelsma tied the game with 57 seconds left in regulation and goaltender Ben West on the bench for the extra attacker.

Eduard Sale was the lone shooter to score in the shootout. Jett Luchanko, Braeden Bowman and Max Namestnikov missed for the Storm.

Jake Karabela led the Storm attack with two goals and an assist. Leo Serlin and Bowman had the other Guelph goals. Serlin and Karabela scored shorthanded.

Brayden Gillespie made 27 saves in the Storm net.

Guelph now sits fifth in the Western Conference.

Guelph hosts the North Bay Battalion Friday night.
