SAGINAW – The Guelph Storm made it five points out of a possible six this week as they downed the Saginaw Spirit 7-3 Saturday night at the Dow Event Centre.
It was all Guelph in this one.
They led 5-1 after the first period, weathered a lengthy five-on-three Saginaw power play in the second period to emerge with a 7-3 lead, then cruised through a scoreless third.
Rookie Ryan McGuire and overage Brayden Guy each had a pair for the Storm, with singles going to Ben McFarlane, Cooper Walker and Braeden Bowman.
The line of McFarlane, Guy and Walker combined for eight points and were a combined plus 13 on the night.
The game featured a mini-brawl near the end of the first period, ignited after a hard hit thrown by Saginaw's Nick Wong on Storm defenceman Michael Buchinger.
When the dust had settled, McGuire got a fighting major, Charlie Paquette was tossed for second fight during a stoppage and Chase Coughlan was ejected for a check to the head.
Buchinger was okay, returning to the game later wearing a protective face mask.
Owen Bennett made 21 saves in the Storm net.
Guelph plays in London on Wednesday then hosts Saginaw on Friday.
