A GuelphToday poll asking how people felt about fairy doors and painted rocks being placed in public parks showed that most people want the parkland left untouched and the ornaments kept out.

We asked the question "Where do you stand on fairy doors and painted rocks in natural areas?" after the city asked people to stop screwing and nailing fairy doors and ornaments to trees because it could be detrimental to its health. Painted rocks were also seen as something potentially unhealthy to the environment because of the paint used.

A total of 2,712 votes were cast over seven days with technology in place to make sure the same IP address only voted once.

Of those votes, 40 per cent (1,087) voted for the “Leave nature to its natural beauty” option.

The poll had a margin of error of 2.85 per cent.

The results:

Love them. Leave them: 18 per cent (478 votes)

Painted rocks are okay, but don’t screw things to trees: 32 per cent (863 votes)

Leave nature to its natural beauty: 40 per cent (1,087 votes)

Who cares? 10 per cent (284 votes)

Of all votes cast, 43 per cent (1,170) were considered to be “local.”

Fifty four per cent were cast on a mobile device, 36 per cent on a desktop device and 10 per cent via tablet.
