A pair of “serious assaults” resulted in charges against a 13-year-old Guelph boy. The incidents happened less than 24 hours apart, say police.

On Wednesday evening, a 15-year-old boy received a message from a 13-year-old boy asking to meet up so the younger teen could return property he had in his possession. Along with several other friends, they met near a park on Edinburgh Road North.

One of the younger boy’s friends allegedly grabbed the 15-year-old and put him in a headlock, choking him until he lost consciousness, a news release explains. While the victim was on the ground, the 13-year-old reportedly kicked him several times.

Two suspects, a 13-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy, were located later that evening and charged with assault causing bodily harm.

They were released with conditions including a 9 p.m. curfew, police note.

At about 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, police learned of an altercation between two groups of youths downtown. During that incident, one of the youths is alleged to have pulled out a small knife and threatened to stab another teen. Then everyone fled the area.

At 9:53 p.m., police say the 13-year-old from the Wednesday incident was seen downtown and arrested after trying to flee on foot.

The youth was arrested again and charged with possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault with a weapon, uttering threats and breaching his undertaking from the night before.
