Accused in Fergus 'grandson bail' scam are from Guelph

Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police have laid charges in relation to an attempted fraud at a home in Fergus.

As a result of the investigation, a 20-year-old and a 17-year-old, both of Guelph, have been charged with fraud Over $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code, police said in a news release.

Both are scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice in Guelph at a later date.

On March 2, at around 1 p.m., Wellington County OPP responded to a report of an active fraud at a residence in Fergus. It was reported that an unknown individual was in the home attempting to collect money to pay a bond/bail for the victim's grandson.

Wellington County OPP had a second similar report and investigators continue to examine if there is a connection. OPP are asking anyone who has been contacted in a similar manner to call police at 1-888-310-1122.
