Alleged shoplifter also charged with escaping lawful custody

A Guelph man caught shoplifting from a local business gained another charge after taking off on store staff.

Just after 2 p.m. Friday, a loss prevention officer from a business on Stone Road West called police. He reported he had arrested a man for stealing more than $350 in product, but while waiting for police the suspect fled the store. The employee followed the male and provided updated locations, allowing police to find and arrest him.

A 50-year-old Guelph man is charged with theft under $5,000 and escaping lawful custody.
