A Sunday afternoon call to police churned up a butter caper worth more than $1,000.
Officers responded to a south end grocery store at about 4 p.m. where two men had been seen placing a case of butter in a cart and walking out of the store to a waiting vehicle, a police news release explains.
Police decided to check nearby parking lots and found the suspect vehicle outside another grocery store. Two men in the vehicle were arrested, along with a third man who exited the store and approached the officers.
A witness reported the third man had abandoned a cart just outside the store. Officers checked and found more stolen butter.
In all, police recovered 144 sticks of butter and 17 containers of ghee.
Three Brampton men – ages 40, 29 and 25 – are charged with theft under $5,000. One of them allegedly provided a false name to police and is additionally charged with obstruction of justice.
