A Guelph male was arrested after a motor vehicle was stolen and then given back Thursday night, report Guelph police.

Approximately 9:30 p.m., a male called police to report his car had been stolen from a parking lot on Willow Road near Silvercreek Parkway. Thirty minutes later he called again to advise he had located his car at a nearby gas station and confronted a male he saw getting out of it. The second male handed over the keys and fled on foot. The car had sustained some minor damage.

Officers attended the gas station and reviewed video surveillance, recognizing the suspect from previous interactions. He was located at a residence nearby and arrested. The victim’s driver’s licence, a folding knife and a small amount of crystal methamphetamine was located subsequent to arrest.

A 30-year-old Guelph male is charged with theft of a motor vehicle, possessing stolen property, possessing an identity document, possessing a controlled substance and two counts of breaching probation. He was held for a bail hearing Friday.
