It will be eight months before a disgraced Guelph police officer finds out his fate.

The professional misconduct penalty hearing for Corey McArthur, twice convicted of assault, is now set for July 8 to July 12 at an as-yet to be determined location.

McArthur is trying to keep his job with the Guelph Police Service. The service wants him fired.

It is a second penalty hearing on the matter. McArthur was originally ordered to either quit the force or be fired, but was granted a new penalty hearing by the Ontario Civilian Police Commission because it was deemed that not enough consideration was given to his PTSD diagnosis at his first professional penalty hearing.

The original disciplinary decision was handed down 14 months ago, following a years-long process related to McArthur’s attack on a teenager handcuffed to a bed at Guelph General Hospital in 2016 that was caught on video.
