Following DNA analysis of evidence found in a stolen vehicle recovered in 2020, police say a 31-year-old Guelph woman now faces a number of charges.

A Volkeswagen was reported stolen from outside a Downtown business on March 6, 2020. It had been left running, explains a Guelph Police news release.

The vehicle was found 20 days later in a parking lot nearby. Evidence collected from inside was sent to the Centre of Forensic Sciences for DNA analysis.

Last summer, a piece of evidence was linked to a male in the National DNA Databank. A 35-year-old Guelph man was arrested and “has had his charges dealt with,” explains the release.

This past May, another piece of evidence was linked to a female in the databank.

On Wednesday, a 31-year-old woman was found at an address in the area of Willow Road and Guelph Street. She is charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, occupying a stolen vehicle and three counts of breaching a probation order.
