A 29-year-old Guelph man faces a number of charges following what started as a verbal altercation with a man walking his dog on Monday evening.

Police were called to a home just outside the downtown area at about 9:20 p.m. where a man reported he’d been followed home by an unknown male who caused damage to the house, a police news release explains.

“Officers arrived on scene and located the male in the complainant’s front yard wearing all black and appearing he was about to throw a large rock at the house,” the release states. “Officers yelled and the male dropped the rock.”

The man was arrested for trespassing. A subsequent search revealed “homemade brass knuckles” and a black marker which “matched” writing found on the complainant’s front porch.

The accused is charged with trespass by night, mischief under $5,000 and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
