Downtown collision leads to charges for driver

Police say the 24-year-old accused left the crash scene and provided a false name to officers

A Paris female faces charges following a collision in downtown Guelph Monday evening.

Approximately 10:40 p.m., police were notified of a collision near the intersection of Wellington Street West and Gordon Street. They arrived to find an unoccupied and heavily-damaged vehicle.

A witness described the female driver and said she had walked away. She was located in the area and several times provided a fake name. The female was arrested for obstructing police and eventually identified herself as the driver of the vehicle.

She was taken to hospital after complaining of neck pain. Breath tests revealed she had alcohol in her system but was below the legal limit.

A 24-year-old Paris female is charged with obstruct police, failing to remain at a collision and novice driver having alcohol in her system.

She will appear in a Guelph court Feb. 15, 2022.
