Guelph police are investigating after a driver took off while officers were trying to pull him over Tuesday evening.
Approximately 7:20 p.m. officers were patrolling on Elmira Road North when a male known to them was observed entering a motor vehicle. The male is not licensed so officers attempted to stop the vehicle with their emergency lights activated. The male stopped briefly, then swerved into the oncoming lanes to drive around the cruiser at a high rate of speed.
Officers followed the vehicle for a short distance before calling off the pursuit in the interest of public safety. The investigation is ongoing.
