Fire at encampment fire believed to be accidental

Several 911 calls came in around 9:30 p.m. on Monday about a fire in an encampment along the Hanlon Expressway near Speedvale Avenue.

There was no one present, no reported injuries and the fire is believed to be accidental according to the Guelph Fire Department, said Scott Tracey, spokesperson for Guelph Police Service.

“There was a lot of material there that burned including a number of wood pallets and so on,” he said.

The damage was to the encampment area and the fire was extinguished by the Guelph Fire Department.
