Five motorists were arrested for impaired driving on the weekend, including three arrested in less than an hour Saturday night, Guelph police report.

Saturday approximately 10:40 p.m., officers were conducting a RIDE program on Wellington Street West when they spoke to a motorist and detected alcohol on his breath. The 28-year-old Guelph man failed a roadside breath test and was transported to the police station, where further testing confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

A few minutes later, police were informed of a vehicle being driven erratically near Victoria Road and Stone Road. The SUV was located and stopped in a nearby plaza. A 27-year-old Kitchener man was showing obvious signs of impairment and was arrested. Testing at the police station confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

At approximately 11:35 p.m., while officers were still dealing with those cases, information was received about a possible impaired driver in the area of Applewood Crescent. Officers located the vehicle and spoke to the driver, who was showing signs of impairment. After failing a roadside test, a 25-year-old Guelph man was transported to the police station where further testing confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

Approximately 4:20 a.m. Sunday, an officer was patrolling on Wellington Street West when he observed a driver lose control near Imperial Road South. The vehicle mounted a median, struck a sign and then left the roadway and collided with a second sign.

The driver, a 19-year-old Guelph woman, was not injured. After failing a roadside test she was transported to the police station, where further testing confirmed she had more than the legal amount of alcohol in her system.

Just before 2 a.m. Monday, City of Guelph Bylaw Enforcement officials responded for a noise complaint at an address on College Avenue West and located a man passed out inside a running vehicle. Officers responded and woke the male, who was showing obvious signs of impairment. A 54-year-old Guelph man was arrested and transported to the police station, where further testing confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

Each of the arrested drivers had their licences suspended for 90 days and their vehicles impounded for a week. They were all released with upcoming court dates.
