Suspicious male, foot pursuit, cyclist struck, calls for service

The following are news releases issued by the Guelph Police Service:

On April 13, 2018, at approximately 1:50 a.m., Guelph police were called to a business on Silvercreek Parkway North, where there was a report of a suspicious male. The male was located and spoken to. As a result of the interaction, the 29-year-old Guelph male was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and breaching an officer in charge undertaking. He was held for a bail hearing.

On April 13, 2018, at approximately 5 a.m., Guelph police were notified of a break and enter in progress, relevant to a south end Hydro One facility. Through a joint effort by security at the scene and police, two males were identified and seen running from the area. After a brief foot pursuit, both males were apprehended.

The males, a 43-year-old and a 40-year-old, both from Guelph, were arrested and charged with break and enter, possession of break and enter tools, two counts of breaching their probation order and one count of breaching an officer in charge undertaking.

On April 12, 2018, at approximately 1:30 p.m., Guelph police were called to the intersection of Silvercreek Parkway North and Westwood Road, where there was a report of a cyclist struck. Investigation alleges a Toyota, being driven by a 72-year-old Guelph male, was eastbound on Westwood and struck a cyclist that was southbound on Silvercreek Parkway North. The cyclist, a 72-year-old Guelph female, received minor injuries. The driver of the Toyota was charged with failing to yield under the Highway Traffic Act.

In the last 24 hours, the Guelph Police Service dealt with 244 calls for service.
