Guelph man accused of shoplifting, resisting arrest

Police say $214.47 worth of merchandise was stolen

On March 12, 2020 at 6:20 p.m., [it is alleged that] an adult male was observed shoplifting $214.47 worth of merchandise from a store located near the intersection of Woodlawn Road West and Woolwich Street in the City of Guelph. The store’s loss prevention officer (LPO) stopped the male and attempted to escort him to the LPO office to wait for police, however, the male resisted and grabbed the LPO with both hands. An altercation ensued and the LPO was eventually able to gain control of the male.

At 6:47 p.m., police were on the scene and attempted to arrest the male when he again physically resisted. Police were eventually able to gain control of the male.

A 33-year-old Guelph male has been charged with:
    •    Theft under $5,000
    •    Resist arrest

He will appear in court on May 1.
