A Guelph man faces robbery and assault charges after staff of a south end business were threatened with a knife during a theft Saturday, report Guelph police.

Approximately 10:30 a.m., police were called to a business in the area of Stone Road West and Edinburgh Road South. A man had attempted to leave the business with several items, including a 32-inch TV, when he was stopped by staff. The male held a knife to an employee’s throat before leaving the store with the TV.

Several employees followed the male, who again brandished the knife towards them while making threats. Officers located the male in the area a short time later and he was arrested.

A 21-year-old Guelph man is charged with robbery and five counts of assault with a weapon. He will appear in a Guelph bail court Monday.
